PALERMO, 23 JAN – The Carabinieri del Ros have arrested Andrea Bonafede, a surveyor from Campobello di Mazara who allegedly lent his identity to the boss Matteo Messina Denaro, on charges of mafia association. The investigation was coordinated by the Palermo prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia and the deputy Paolo Guido. In addition to handing over his identity card to the former fugitive to allow him to obtain a false document and to give him the health card necessary for the therapies and medical visits to which the boss had to undergo, Bonafede bought – by his own admission – the house of Campobello di Mazara where Messina Denaro spent the last period of his escape, gave him the ATM allowing him to do some shopping, made him buy the Giulietta in which he was travelling. The car, purchased personally by the godfather a year ago in a Palermo dealership, was formally registered to Bonafede’s mother. And also the mother of the surveyor, an 87-year-old disabled person, had the Fiat 500 given in exchange for the purchase of the Giulietta registered. (HANDLE).
