News that some have been waiting for a long time – not to say too much – time, let’s say it now: the rework of the Breakaway map but above all the return to the class system classico are two changes as important as expected, so it is not surprising that the event was completely dedicated to them.
BATTLEFIELD 2042 THROWBACK
Well yes, finally we see each other again the class system that has always characterized the Battlefield series, a “new entry” that looks like an about-face whose goal is peaceful: mend the tear that has ruined the relationship between the historical fans of the franchise and the last chapter. Choosing to bet on the specialists the community did not immediately like it, in exchange for a theoretical greater freedom there was a loss of identity which was never really digested.
DICE has decided to retrace his clumsy steps to try to return the stolen goods to the many broken hearts
Those who have been looking forward to a throwback will likely be pleased to know that it’s coming satisfied: after acknowledging and processing the numerous feedback received, DICE has decided to retrace its clumsy steps to try to return the stolen goods – the feeling of the past – to the many broken hearts.
The return of the classes can only be happy news for Battlefield veterans.
With the update at the end of January, the Specialists will be divided into classes Robbery (Mackay, Dozer, Sundance, Zain), enjoy (Boris, Crawford, Lis), Support (Falck, Angel, Irish) e Scout (Paik, Casper, Rao) based on the characteristics that distinguish them. This will coincide with a limitation of certain tools (class gadgets), which will no longer be usable with any character. To give an idea, with the patch RPGs and the like will become the exclusive preserve of Engineers, therefore the choice of role will become a discriminating factor as regards usable equipment.
the choice of role will become a discriminant as regards the usable equipment
Completing your loadout will be there of standard class equipment (Assault/Medic Pen, Engineer/Repair Tool, Support/Defibrillator, Recon/Arming Beacon) and a throwable – like the various grenades – which, however, will be available for everyone.
Coordinating will be more essential than ever with the reinstatement of roles, but also more fulfilling.
Disavowing the unfortunate initial game design choicethe major revolution expected with patch 3.2 clearly aims to resurrect the ancient feeling and, at the same time, to increase the legibility of the clashes. The hope of the developers is that in this way it will be more immediate to understand at a glance the type of enemy who you look at, what are its capabilities and consequently who to prioritize.
The return of the Classes aims to resurrect the old feeling and to increase the readability of the clashes
It should be emphasized that the new limits they will not affect main weapons so it will still be possible to equip them regardless of classhowever, to encourage the classic class/weapon pairings, they will be provided of bonuses:
Assault Rifle Assault: three extra magazines
Engineer with LMG: Improved dispersion while crouched or prone
Support with SMG: faster extraction times
Sniper Rifle Recon: Immediate and constant fixed aim
The indications provided by the event are quite encouraging, the resurrection of historical roles seems to succeed in its intent: those who want to take care of the vehicles must necessarily choose the Engineer, those who prefer to act on the front line and pierce the enemy defenses the Assault, those who are inclined – God bless you – to assist the companions the Support and, instead, those who have an infallible aim and love to move on the sides of the chaos are perfect for the Sniper.
Total war is always at the center of the experience, it doesn’t rain on that.
The structuring imposed by classes and roles has appeared benefit the overall experiencereturning a Battlefield 2042 part of that modus operandi to which the brand has always accustomed us and which we missed.
THE REBIRTH OF BREAKAWAY
The preview also served to set foot in the new version of Breakaway. On paper, the renewal of the map set in the ice aims to provide better coverage and paths that lead to the perfected points of interest, in short, everything that can favor infantry fighting.
A glimpse of the oil rig in the new Breakaway.
The tweaks don’t end there, the oil rig for example has been moved closer to the action in order to offer a more concentrated play space and more dynamic fights, but the sense of newness is also perceived on an aesthetic level since a reworking can be seen of the shaders of ice and snow.

The match-tests have provided a handful of different impressions compared to those that Breakaway usually can give. Whether it’s among the ice or among the flags the scenario appears more soldier-friendlyplus the action around the oil rig is more engagingand as well as aggressive. The revamped version of Breakaway actually seems to hit the mark, though Some doubts of course there is the widespread difficulty of avoiding repeatedly being targeted by some sniper, but for more accurate feedback there is a need for a certainly longer and more substantial proof.
Between close, medium and long range clashes there is something for all tastes.
Scarce two hours and four matches (two in Breakthrough mode, two in Conquest) are certainly not enough to get a precise idea of the balance of the many components involved, the possible impact of each novelty and what the next meta will reserve for us, it’s clear.
The feeling is that patch 3.2 is a step in the right direction
Equally self-evident is the willingness of the developers to demonstrate to the many disappointed fans that, despite everything, Battlefield 2042 he is still alive, that there is a desire to get to grips with it until it has obtained a form closer to that which populates the broken dreams of those who have felt betrayed. The feeling is that patch 3.2 is a step in the right direction, but also that the rehabilitation process is still long and full of obstacles.
