FLORENCE, 25 JAN – A 28-year-old Florentine, linked to the anarchist area, was arrested, on the measure of pre-trial detention, because he was held responsible for six attacks on the high speed line between Florence and Bologna which took place between San Piero a Sieve and Firenzuola, in Fiorentino, between 28 August and 28 December last. The Dda of Florence, which coordinated the investigations by Digos and Polfer of Florence, reports the news. Investigations are underway, coordinated by the Florence prosecutor’s office, also on the position of two 17-year-olds “in relation to their possible involvement in one of the six criminal episodes”, explains the police station. From what has been explained, flammable liquid would have been used for the disputed actions to set fire to the electrical substations: on the sites of the attacks the investigators would not have found cylinders and traces of explosives. The 28-year-old would have acted at night, when high-speed trains do not travel. One of the fires that broke out in Firenzuola would have knocked out an electrical panel that manages the ventilation fans of the gallery below. According to the investigators, if a train accident had occurred the following day in the Firenzuola tunnel, the fumes from the fire would not have been drawn in due to the failure of the fans.
