We have reached the age of artificial intelligence-generated politics
As reported by WBZ News Radio and other sources, the Democratic Representative from Massachusetts, Jake Auchinclossbecame the first congressman to hold a speech written by an artificial intelligence in the House of Representatives. The speech was delivered in support of a bill that provides for the creation of a research Center artificial intelligence joint run by the United States and Israel.
The speech was written with ChatGPT and it’s boring e devoid of pathos, as one might expect from a political discourse filtered by an artificial intelligence system based on probabilistic averages. That’s not to say that textual tools of AI can’t generate unusual and creative results, but usually this requires a little more imagination in both the request and the argument.
Here is the prompt Auchincloss gave the program: You are Jake Auchincloss, a member of Congress. Write 100 words to speak in the House of Representatives. Topic: The importance of the US-Israeli Center for Artificial Intelligence bill, which the congressman intends to reintroduce in this legislature.
Here is the result:
Madam Speaker of the House, I’m here today because I plan to reintroduce the United States-Israel Artificial Intelligence Center Act, a bipartisan law that will solidify a mutually beneficial partnership between the United States and Israel in artificial intelligence research. This is a fundamental step forward in an era where artificial intelligence and its implications are at the center of public discourse.
We must work with international partners such as the Israeli government to ensure that the United States maintains a leadership role in artificial intelligence research and development and responsibly explores the many possibilities offered by evolving technologies. The US-Israeli Center for Artificial Intelligence bill will allow us to tap into both countries’ expertise and resources to explore and develop cutting-edge innovations in artificial intelligence.
It has the right words in the right order, but it’s completely devoid of wit or originality or anything else. Frankly, it looks just like it was written by an artificial intelligence. After all, such a dystopian event could only happen in the United States, the land where sacrosanct ‘freedom’ reigns, but which, under current conditions, is no longer a founding value, but only a statue.
