In recent years, War Thunder had to deal with some controversies. Specifically, the developers found it necessary to move quickly to remove authentic military files that players shared on the forums in order to win arguments against other fans. It seemed that the community learned its lesson, but the reality is often disappointing.
This week, a user posted restricted files for the F-16 fighter jet, as well as documentation for the AIM-120 AMRAAM missile system. They were all posted in a thread on the forums, where players discussed weapon specs.
It just can’t be! Military files leaked again on the War Thunder forums
These documents are not classified. However, they are restricted by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), a law that limits and prevents the disclosure of US weapons data and information to foreigners. And yes, that includes distribution on the internet.
The party is not over yet. A day later, another user posted a bunch of manuals for the F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft. The leak reveals information about the operation of the radar, the orientation controls, the digital map and the head-up display, among many other things.

These files are also not classified, but their publication is prohibited. Gaijin Entertainment, the studio responsible for War Thunder, removed both posts from the free video game forums.
“We always remove posts containing classified or restricted information from our forum as soon as possible. We prohibit our users from sharing documents like this on our platforms. We remind you over and over again that it is illegal and pointless, so you should never do it. We never use them in our work and that policy will never change,” said Anton Yudintsev, founder of Gaijin Entertainment.

Although the tanks, ships and planes that appear in War Thunder are based on real models, the developers only use public documents to design these military vehicles.
An old problem: War Thunder players leak many military documents
As we told you, it is not the first time that users of the free-to-play title have shared sensitive information. In July 2021, a British user leaked documents to prove that the depiction of a tank was inaccurate. 3 months later, a former French Army soldier shared files on the Leclerc S2 vehicle.
Finally, in June 2022, a player from China shared authentic files on the forums to try to get developers to change a tank’s stats.
It is barely January 2023 and the first case has already arisen. Will we see more incidents like these in the coming months?
But tell us, what do you think of this curious situation? Let us read you in the comments.
