House of the Vettii belonged to two slaves called Aulus Vettius restored y Aulus Vettius Convivawhat they were released y they got rich selling wine.
For a while it was said that they were brothers, but it doesn’t make much sense that two brothers have the same name. Most likely, according to Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Pompeii Archaeological Park in The Guardian, explains that Aulus Vettius was the name of its owner. Restitutus is a surname that used to be given to freed slaves.
A Roman house with its own brothel
House of the Vettii is one of the most important Pompeii, for several reasons. It is luxuriously decorated with frescos, mosaics and paintings of exquisite quality. And the garden is preserved intact, with its statues with giant penisesits sources and its piping system.
A part of the house offers a traditional decoration, where the taste and fashion of the time is shown. Another area is dedicated to freed slaves, where they thank Príapoa Greek god of fertility, possibly indicating that these slaves came from Greece, although many Romans also worshiped Greek gods.
Next to the kitchen, in a secluded corner of the house, there was a brothel run by a Greek prostitute. It is decorated with pornographic fresh.

Park director Gabriel Zuchtriegel says that if he could only visit one house in Pompeiiit would be the House of the Vettii: “It tells the story of Roman society. On the one hand there are the works of art, paintings and statues, and on the other the social history of the freed slaves. It is one of the few houses in Pompeii for which we have the names of the owners”.
More than 120 years have passed since Pompeii began to emerge from the ashes of the volcano… and time. But it still continues to amaze us with new discoveries.
