The Uruguayan defender was hired by Defensor Sporting to reinforce the Juventus Under 16 squad: his father, a Juventus flag on the pitch, has been the Primavera coach since last summer
Juve’s market hit for its youth sector. Alfonso Montero, son of Paolo, who has been coaching the Juventus Primavera since last summer, is arriving. He too is a defender: he promises a lot, but he is aware that the road to professionalism is still long. It is a class of 2007, he will strengthen the defensive department of coach Claudio Rivalta’s Under 16 team. In his last experience at Defensor Sporting he showed that he has great potential, humility and character reminiscent of his father. It is no coincidence that he is already a staple of the Uruguayan Under 17 national team. Physical structure of perspective, ambidextrous and already quite skilled in marking. In the nursery of Vinovo he will find other children of art like him: but the decision to move to Turin was mainly motivated by the opportunity to grow up in the Italian school of defenders and take advantage of the club’s training up to the second team. In short, a weighted decision for his career, as well as for an indirect link to the Juve world.
FAMILY TRADITION
—
Alfonso was born when Paolo was practically at the end of his career as a footballer, but he knows well his father’s attachment to Italy and in particular to black and white Turin. So much so that last summer, when Juve called him, he didn’t think twice about packing his bags and accepting the offer to coach the Primavera team. The former defender spent thirteen years in Italian football, the first four at Atalanta and the remaining at Juve until 2005. The Juventus management snatched him from Inter in the summer of 1996 with a lightning-fast yet effective action: the ex The footballer was heading with his agent to the headquarters of the Nerazzurri club to sign the new contract, when he received the call that changed his life. From that gut decision for a simple “come to Turin and sign with us” a great love story was born. “I became a Juventus player the first day I arrived in Turin”, Paolo Montero has always admitted. Which now he will want to direct to the best of his son.
