TEHERAN – There are at least five Muslim-majority countries that produce the world’s largest natural gas. One of them even managed to rank third in the world, just below the United States (US) and Russia.
In its development, natural gas has become the primary need of the population in a number of countries. For example, it can be used to generate electricity, fuel vehicles, to turn on space heaters.
Reporting from the Visual Capitalist page, Friday (13/1/2023), here are a row of Muslim-majority countries that produce the largest natural gas in the world.
1. Iran
Iran is a country in the West Asia region. With its capital in Tehran, the country is bordered by Azerbaijan and Armenia to the northwest, Afghanistan and Pakistan to the east, and Turkey and Iraq to the west.
As a country with a majority Muslim population, Iran is also known to be included in the list of the world’s largest natural gas producers. They are in third place, just below the United States and Russia.
In 2021, Iran produces around 256.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas. This figure is equivalent to 6.4% of the total global production.
However, when compared to the US or Russia, this number is still quite far away.
In this case, Uncle Sam’s country produces more than 900 billion cubic meters, while Moscow is about 700 billion cubic meters more.
2. Qatar
