DAMASCUS – The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is the most notorious terrorist group in the world. This group even has branches in various countries, one of which is ISIS-K.
ISIS-K is an affiliate of ISIS in Khorasan Province. The group founded in 2015 is known as the most extreme and violent terrorist in Afghanistan.
So, what are the other branches of ISIS in the world besides ISIS-K? Here’s the list.
1. ISIS-M (Mozambique)
ISIS-M is a branch of ISIS in Mozambique, a country in South Africa. One of the areas where ISIS-M members rebelled was northern Mozambique.
Its members have been carrying out activities in forests and remote villages since the end of 2017. According to The Washington Post, many women have been kidnapped and forced to become sex slaves.
Kidnapping also targets boys so they can serve as soldiers. If the victim refuses to follow orders, he will be punished with decapitation.
Overall, the ISIS-M uprising has claimed as many as 4 thousand lives and 1 million residents are reportedly displaced.
In order to suppress the movement of ISIS-M, the government of the United States (US) has been working with its partners in Africa.
This collaboration was carried out with the aim of dismantling and breaking the ISIS financial network in Africa.
