The New York Times writes that based on sources within the US government. Former Pentagon CEO Mick Mulroy called the news “an indication that Iran is deeply entangled in the war.” According to him, the Iranian government is “involved in Russian operations in which civilians have been killed and injured”.
According to sources, the trainers are located at the same military base in Crimea where many of Iran’s drones are said to be stored. Attacks with kamikazedrones have killed several people in the Ukrainian capital Kiev in the past two weeks.
In this video, defense expert Patrick Bolder explains what he knows about the Iranian kamikazedrones that Russia is deploying in the war against Ukraine:
The Russians are now being aided by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the elite corps of the Shia clergy who have ruled Iran since 1979, according to The New York Times. The United States has previously labeled this group a terrorist organization.
The Tehran regime denies supplying drones to Russia, despite indications that it does. According to the American newspaper, the Iranian trainers came to Crimea at the exact moment the drone attacks on Ukraine were being stepped up.
Initially, Russian soldiers were sent to Iran to learn how to operate the drones.
The Iranian personnel now in Crimea are far from the front line. It is not clear whether the drones used in the fatal attacks in recent weeks were piloted by Iranians, according to The New York Times.
