Cristiano Ronaldo was going to repeat being the winner of the Ballon d’Or again the following year. With three Ballon d’Ors to his credit, he was only one behind Messi, who was -and still is- the player with the most distinctions of this type.

In 2015 the Argentine reigned again. Leo Messi was going to increase his particular record by winning another Ballon d’Or two years after the last one he had achieved. With this award, Messi stood with five Ballon d’Ors in his particular trophy case.

The Croatian from Real Madrid was the player who broke the hegemony that Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi maintained during the decade. Modric won this award after a great season in which he managed to play in the World Cup final and was once again the engine of a Real Madrid team that won the Champions League for the third time in a row.
