The layoffs affected workers at several major Microsoft divisions, including Xbox. In addition, it is stated that at least one department of the company will close completely after the hundreds of dismissals.

Layoffs at Microsoft affected Xbox and more divisions
Business Insider (via VCG) reports that the wave of layoffs at Microsoft affected various departments and divisions of the company. In addition to some Xbox employees losing their jobs, the move also affected people who were part of Microsoft’s Strategic Missions and Technologies team.
Members of Studio Alpha, a gaming initiative with military and commercial projects, confirmed that all members of the team were laid off, so the department will close completely. Several of those affected were company veterans who had been with Microsoft for at least more than a decade.
A company spokesman said the layoffs were the result of structural adjustments and that, in the future, they will continue to hire staff for their various divisions.
“Like all companies, we regularly assess our business priorities and make structural adjustments accordingly. We will continue to invest in our business and hire in key growth areas in the coming year,” said the company representative.
