FC Groningen will play in the cup tournament this season with a black shirt, to draw attention to the earthquake problem in the province. The shirt with ‘tears’ and a seismological sign “refers to the scenario that many victims and victims of the earthquakes have to deal with and/or may still have to deal with”, explains the Eredivisie club.
The FC Groningen captain has been wearing a special band with the same seismological sign since last season. “FC Groningen wants to use its national reach to once again draw extra attention to the suffering of people who are victims of earthquakes in the catchment area of the club,” the club now reports. Groningen will play in the new uniform for the first time in the first round of the cup tournament against FC Dordrecht on Wednesday.
Earlier this month there was another earthquake in the area, near Wirdum with a magnitude of 3.1. The parliamentary committee of inquiry has also been held in recent weeks, in which those involved were heard about natural gas extraction in Groningen.
