What is the group zero diet and how exactly does it work? Find out all the details in our in-depth analysis
The blood group 0 diet is a very special diet developed by the Italian-American naturopath Peter d’Adamo and is based on the theory that the blood group has a heavy impact on the relationship between food and metabolism. This diet has no real scientific foundation and there is no evidence that it is effective on its own or if the weight loss is due to other factors.
Blood type 0 diet: all the details
The blood group 0 diet it is based on the assumption that during the evolutionary history of man there has been a differentiation of blood groups that has left a genetic trace associated with a predisposition to a specific diet. Some foods in fact contain proteins called lectine which affect differently the blood groups A, B, AB and 0. These substances favor a process called “agglutination” of red blood cells which would, according to the theory, lead to the onset of food intolerances and eating disorders. Depending on your blood type, you should therefore follow a specific diet:
Blood type 0 diet
Group 0 is considered the oldest of all blood groups and is associated with hunters. Those who fall into the category should therefore follow a high-protein diet like that ketogenic o paleo diet. On the other hand, dairy products, legumes, beans, chickpeas and cereals and derivatives such as bread, pasta, rice are not recommended as group 0 is the one that seems to have a higher tendency to celiac disease.
Blood group A diet
Group A is associated with farmers and for this reason a diet rich in plant foods such as vegetables, fruit, cereals, legumes and pseudocerals is more suitable. In this sense, the minestrone diet. Instead, the consumption of meat should be limited and the consumption of dairy products reduced to a minimum.
Blood type B diet
Group B would be associated with nomadic populations who would have a very strong immune system and a more effective digestive system than most people. Those of group B are the only ones who can consume dairy products without problems and should instead eat foods rich in preservatives and simple sugars.
Blood type AB diet
The AB group is described by the creator of the blood group diet as “enigmatic” and is placed on the top rung of the evolutionary ladder. It is therefore halfway between groups A and B. For this reason it is possible to consume any food in moderation but always reducing the intake of dairy products.
