And there sat the top twenty female soccer players today. And again and again, Alexia was applauded and cheered. The fact of having missed the Euro and not being able to add minutes on the court did not detract from what was achieved until July. With Barcelona he won all the titles played at the national level: League, Copa de la Reina and Supercopa de España. In the Women’s Champions she reached the final where Lyon lost to Lyon, and she was recognized as the top scorer with 11 goals and best player in the continental tournament. The midfielder finished the season as the second top scorer in the League with 18 goals and as the top assister with 15 assists. In total, Alexia finished the season with a total of 42 goals and 23 assists. Those titles and numbers also gave her the UEFA Best Player of the Year award -for the second time in a row- and they were more than enough for her to win this Ballon d’Or, the second in her personal career.
The 28-year-old midfielder not only adds exorbitant numbers and figures but is also a great builder of the collective game, who in each team she is in contributes her virtues and experiences to create volume of play and off the pitch, she is a benchmark of visibility of this discipline. Alexia once again wrote a new page in the history of women’s football.
