At Nintendo Direct, Shigeru Miyamoto bordered the launch of Super Mario Bros. to spring 2022. The strip has recently been “given the finishing touches”. The new film adaptation was announced in 2019, but there have been no scenes from the film to date.
But that will change very soon. Like New York Comic Con proud announced, the first teaser trailer for the upcoming film from Nintendo and Illumination will be presented on October 6th at 10 p.m. German time. Incidentally, the specific theatrical release date of April 7, 2023 was also mentioned.
Fans worldwide are as excited as Mario’s dungarees. Chris Pratt, who dubbed Mario not without controversy, no longer. He’s already seen the video and of course it’s fantastic. “I just saw the teaser trailer for myself for the very first time. I’m just blown away. You will be too, I promise you. This one is VERY special. I can’t wait,” he commented enthusiastically Twitter.
Is Spike in the party?
There are still no details about the content of the animated film. Only previously unconfirmed backgrounds. Actor and comedian Sebastian Maniscalco casually revealed on a podcast in 2021 that he’s taking on a role in the Super Mario Bros. animated film.
“I play Spike, her boss,” Maniscalco said at the time. And that’s where the pretty deep Mario lore begins. Foreman Spike was a character in the 1985 NES game Wrecking Crew. In this game, which predates Super Mario Bros., you play as Mario, trying to destroy certain objects with a heavy hammer.
Spike, a foreman, was also there. But he constantly sabotaged Mario’s plans. Spike also appeared again in 1998’s Wrecking Crew ’98, which was released only in Japan. Other than that, he didn’t play a major role in Mario’s long history.
