In May 2019, The Pokémon Company announced that Detective Pikachu also on Nintendo Switch in search of clues will go. Since then, the trail has literally been lost, because there has never been any news about it again. Until February 2022: At that time there were small hints on a Creatures recognition website.
The new trail also leads to developer Creatures. Anyone who makes it their task to study LinkedIn profiles of developers is sure to find something here and there. You just have to do it. A Famiboards user (via VGC) did it and found a clear reference to Detective Pikachu 2 – the supposed sequel to Detective Pikachu for Nintendo Switch – in Jonathan Murphy’s profile.
Murphy says he’s a senior game programmer at Creatures and has been working on a game that’s nearing completion, Detective Pikachu 2, in addition to an “unannounced project.” And that was about it.
Nothing is still known about the new game beyond the May 2019 announcement. But if they’re still (or again) working on the game at Creatures, maybe that’s about to change!
What happened until now
Detective Pikachu was released for Nintendo 3DS in Japan in 2016 and was localized worldwide in 2018. It is an adventure spin-off to the series with a focus on the story.
In 2019 there was a cinema version in the form of a live-action film by Rob Letterman. Just in time for the film’s release, The Pokémon Company also announced that the little detective will soon be investigating on the Switch. We haven’t found out more to this day.
