After an earthquake was recorded today for the third time on the same day (September 19), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has ruled on the matter, noting that this curious “coincidence” warrants opening new lines of scientific research so that this phenomenon can be studied more precisely.
After this afternoon’s earthquake, of magnitude 7.7 with an epicenter in Ticomán, Michoacán, the UNAM believes that new studies should be carried out on the origin of telluric movements, Well, as José Luis Mateos, a researcher in complex systems and statistical physics at UNAM, explained, the chances of three earthquakes, with a magnitude greater than seven degrees, occurring on the same date is only one in 133,225, which is equivalent to 0.000751%.
These investigations, referred to the highest house of studies, will have to be carried out with methodology and seriousness.
Earthquakes “cannot be predicted”: Civil Protection
After different comments and theories began to circulate after the coincidence that today, for the third time in the history of Mexico, an earthquake occurred on the same date as on two other occasions (September 19, 1985 and 2017), the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPP) called on citizens to remind them that earthquakes cannot be predicted.
“Remember… earthquakes cannot be predicted and to date there is no institution or person in the world that has been successful in indicating the date, time, magnitude and exact place where an earthquake will occur”, can be read in the message shared through his Twitter account.
