Through Bill No. 2737/2022-CR, Congresswoman Nilza Chacón Trujillo, from the Fuerza Popular caucus, proposes to improve the conditions for anchoveta extraction by artisanal and smaller-scale fishing vessels, with the aim to stimulate direct human consumption of this resource.
It is pointed out that the Ministry of Production (Production) must progressively increase the annual quota for the capture of anchoveta and white anchoveta for direct human consumption, until it reaches 10% of the maximum catch limit established for indirect consumption. The increase must be made on the technical basis of the Institute of the Sea of Peru (Imarpe).
In addition, it is specified that Produce must establish an annual quota in tons for each vessel dedicated to direct human consumption, both small-scale and artisanal fishing.

According to data from Produce, by 2022 anchovy fishing has grown by 139%; however, this is mostly directed to indirect consumption. In addition, it must be taken into account that for this year the quota for direct consumption is 150,000 tons, which is 5.8% of what is destined for indirect consumption, which does not ensure the supply for canned, cured and frozen.
Among the measures to promote fishing that Produce must carry out are the implementation of good practices for marketing by the National Fisheries Health Agency (SANIPES), the implementation of modern landing sites and the promotion of credit lines accessible through the National Fund. Fisheries Development (Fondepes).
