The British Grand Prix recorded a low turnout of spectators, MotoGP in alarm
Show on the track at Silverstone, with many overtaking and battles from the first to the last lap of the British MotoGP Grand Prix, but the setting in the stands was not up to the situation. MotoGP was in fact forced to record a sharp decline in turnout, with just 40,000 spectators for Sunday’s race, 100,000 overall for the weekend: the third worst figure of the 2022 World Championship, and the worst weekend in Silverstone history as regards motorbikes.
The absence of full-blown champions such as Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez, and the lack of competitive British drivers on the grid have weighed and the numbers return to make Dorna and Carmelo Ezpeleta reflect, who a few months ago complained about the low turnout of spectators at the Mugello.
