The agricultural sector registered a growth of 4.4% in the first half of this year (January-June), compared to the same period in 2021, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).
According to the ministry, the positive performance of national agriculture was due to the higher production of the agricultural subsector (+5.3%) and the livestock subsector (+2.5%).

In detail, the growth of the agricultural subsector was driven by the greater production obtained from blueberries, which advanced 104% with greater production area in La Libertad, Lambayeque and Lima; olive (+34.8%), tangerine (+18.7%) and grape (+12.3%).
Also noteworthy is the increased production of potatoes, which grew by 9.6% (greater area planted and harvested in Ayacucho, Cusco and Huancavelica; banana (+7.4%), avocado (+5.9%), among others.
In what corresponds to the livestock subsector, the Midagri detailed that the expansion was due to the greater production of chicken, which grew 3.1% due to the greater placement of bb chickens from the meat line in Lima, Arequipa and La Libertad. There was also a higher volume of raw cow milk (+2.7%), pork (+3.9%) and beef (+1.1%).
