DC announces The Death of Superman 30th Anniversary Special #1, which will be handled by the original The Death of Superman creative teams
DC Comics reunites the creative teams behind the “Death of Superman” story for a new special.
DC announced that Dan Jurgens, Brett Breeding, Roger Stern, Butch Guice, Louise Simonson, Jon Bogdanove, Jerry Ordway y Tom Grummett they will return for The Death of Superman 30th Anniversary Special #1, which will be released in November. The special will feature four stories that will examine the toll Clark’s death had on his friends and family.
Jurgens, Breeding, Brad Anderson and John Workman will create «The Life of Superman»a story in which a young Jon Kent he first learns of his father’s death at school. In addition, the story will introduce a new villain related to Doomsday called Doombreaker. «Standing Guard» is directed by Stern, Guice, Glenn Whitmore and Rob Leigh, which shows the battle of the Iron Man y Doomsday from the point of view of the Guardians. «Time» by Simonson, Bogdanove, Whitmore and Leigh will follow John Henry’s perspective through the iconic story.
Finally, «Above and Beyond» of Ordway, Grummett, Doug Hazelwood, Whitmore and Leigh shows Jonathan y Martha Kent watching Clark fight Doomsday on live TV while looking at old photos of his son.
The special for the 30th anniversary of the death of the Man of Steel will also include variant covers by Jim Lee, Scott Williams, Dan Mora, Ivan Reis, Danny Miki, Francesco Mattina, and more.
Jurgens said of the special: “Even now, thirty years after ‘The Death of Superman’ first came out, every convention or store appearance I do has at least one person come up to me with Superman #75 or the first collected edition of ‘Death of Superman’ and says, “This is the book that got me into comics. And I’m still here, reading, all these years later.” Most of the time, it is more than one. Sometimes multiple people come to my table at the same time and share their memories, which is always fun to experience.”
The Death of Superman 30th Anniversary Special #1 features a cover by Jurgens and Breeding. The issue goes on sale November 8.
