Daniel James Gallagher pleaded guilty to the involuntary manslaughter of Leah Jayde, his nine-month-old daughter who died on April 2, 2021, after leaving her in the bathroom for seven minutes without supervision while she smoked and surfed Facebook on her cell phone. The terrible event occurred in Queensland, Australia.
The man put the girl in the bathtub with the water still running. At that point, Gallagher had to leave the room to deal with an electrical issue on the property. Then he smoked a cigarette and was finally on Facebook.

Returning to Leah, he found her “floating” in the water. The father of the family called the emergency room and tried to perform CPR on the minor’s body.
The 9-month-old girl was rushed to Hervey Bay Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
Prosecutor Chris Cook estimated that Leah’s father left the little girl unattended for seven minutes.
In addition, he pointed out that “there is no doubt” that Gallagher was repentant, but was firm in classifying the case as a homicide and not as an “accident”.

“It was beyond reckless. It was more than inattention, his actions caused a completely preventable death. The victim impact here is, of course, extreme,” he stated.
As if that were not enough, this would not be the first time that a dangerous incident has occurred while Leah was in the care of her father.
According to Shaylan’s account, the minor’s mother, a few days ago, came home and found her daughter alone in the bathroom while her ex-husband smoked outside the house.

Shaylan told ABC that she began “screaming and crying her eyes out” after receiving the devastating news. Now, she has made it her mission to raise awareness of child safety.
“It’s about following your instinct. If you feel that your son is not safe somewhere, he should act accordingly,” Shaylan said.
