The Mexican Sergio “Checo” Perez was unable to finish the 2022 Formula 1 (F1) Austrian Grand Prix, as his RB18 was damaged after a contact with Britain’s George Russell at turn 4 of the first lap of the circuit, and in this regard the advisor of Red Bull, Helmut Marko, blamed the Mexican for this incident.
“We said before the start: ‘Not on the outside of this corner, that’s not possible’. We have already had experience with Albon here,” Marko told Sky Sports.
Helmut referred to the incident that took place in 2020, where the former Red Bull driver, Alex Albon, also suffered a contact with Lewis Hamilton, right in the same area of the circuit, as a consequence the English driver ended up in the gravel and there was no more chance to win.
For Marko, the day lived in Austria is bitter, despite the fact that Max Verstappen got on the podium, but he did it in second place and lashed out at the Mexican again, “Unfortunately, that was unnecessary.”
After the Austrian GP, ”Checo” Pérez lost second place in the drivers’ championship of the F1but Helmut Marko considers that this does not mean a risk of losing the constructors’ championship, noting that Verstappen is still in the lead.
“We limited the damage, Ferrari and we are more or less at the same level all year. We’re not worried, it’s not like we’re losing the championship here.” sentenced.
