The Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), current leader of the Formula 1 (F1) World Championship, today Friday led the first free practice of the Austrian Grand Prix 2022, race 11 of the year, which will take place this Sunday at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. In rehearsal, his partner, the Mexican Sergio “Checo” Pérez was left out of the Top-3, as he scored the fourth time.
In the best of his 34 laps, Verstappen covered the 4,318 meters of the track in one minute, six seconds and 302 thousandths, 255 less than the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and four tenths ahead of the Englishman George Russell ( Mercedes), who gave 32 and who also marked his fast lap with the soft tires.
“Czech” Perezsecond in the World Cup F1with 147 points and who has just finished second in the British GP, turned 27 times and in his best lap he set the fourth time of a session that was red-flagged twice: one, to take the McLaren of the Englishman Lando Norris off the track -who complained that smoke was coming out from under his seat-; and another -of just two minutes- to remove some damage from the asphalt. The driver from Guadalajara stayed, in his best attempt, just over half a second from his Dutch companion.
