The Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary celebrations are well underway and we’ve already had some great announcements like the ones for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. The interview series is also part of the celebrations Final Fantasy VII Remake Revisited.
The second part of this interview series is about the second chapter and again various developers in their field are asked about design decisions and many other things. Motomu Toriyama was questioned about the Moiren’s alleged attack on Aerith.
The Moires are new to Final Fantasy VII Remake, and we first encounter them when we encounter Aerith in Sector 8, shortly after the Mako Reactor 1 explosion. At first, Cloud can’t see her.
Aerith seems to know more about these beings. It looks to Cloud and the player as if the moires are attacking Aerith in this scene. But that’s not the case, as Motomu Toriyama reveals. They don’t want to attack Aerith, just keep her in place.
“The Moires surrounding Aerith in Sector 8 are not trying to intervene in any way, but their appearance is a guiding event for Cloud and Aerith to meet there for the first time. The moire keeps Aerith around and doesn’t run away from the excitement of the reactor blowing up,” Toriyama said.
