This opens a new chapter on the long road it should lead Activision Blizzard to become part of Microsoft, as announced almost six month ago. Today, however, it is the turn of the regulatory bodies to have their say: as reported by CNBCthe Competition and Markets Authority of the United Kingdom has in fact opened an investigation into this transaction. The purpose of the investigation will be to verify whether the acquisition will lead to negative implications from the point of view of competition and the service offered to consumers.
It is certainly not strange that the regulatory bodies take steps to ascertain the possible impact of such matters. In the United States, for example, it was the Federal Trade Commission to scrutinize Microsoft’s offer, which had a record value of ben 70 billion dollars. Also the FTC has recently turned its gaze towards the acquisition of Bungie from Sony. The Competition and Markets Authority, however, will disclose its initial decisions by September 1st.
