Red Devils on the transfer market looking for a central defender who offers more guarantees
Harry Maguire, an endless decline. As reported by the Daily Mail, the Manchester United center, highly contested by the fans and already “in pectore”, deprived of the role of leader by Ten Hag, in addition to having lost the captain’s armband, risks not even being considered the owner.
Maguire has experienced a particularly complex year both from a technical and a personal point of view. The fans even went so far as to threaten him personally, complete with a bomb alarm in his home. Net of the disputes, however, the central defender was the protagonist of an evident evolution that risks leaving him on the sidelines of the team. Ten Hag trusted him for a fixed term, specifying that in his squad three are considered “untouchable”: Lindelöf, Varane and Maguire. The feeling is that the order is not random. Also because according to what has been reported overseas, everything suggests that the management will go hunting for a new defender.
Ten Hag’s idea, also considering the injuries that affected Varane’s first season, is to have four power plants more or less on the same level in order to choose the center pair that best suits his needs. The Red Devils will go on the market in search of a central defender who offers more guarantees than who is in the squad if he can get rid of three gaps: Tuanzebe, Bailly and Phil Jones. This means that at the status quo Maguire is far from sure of his position as a holder. Also because the arrival of a level defender risks relegating him, almost certainly, to a more secondary role. It seems incredible for a player who just three summers ago arrived at Old Trafford with the label of doomed. In this sense, the investment is also at risk: arrived for 87 million euros from Leicester City, an astronomical transfer collapsed both from a performance and economic point of view. Its second market value Transfermarkt it dropped to 38 million.
