MACERATA, 23 JUN – The Court of Assizes of Macerata sentenced Giuseppe Spagnulo to life imprisonment and his wife Francesca Angiulli to 16 years in prison. The spouses of Apulian origins were accused in concurrence of premeditated murder and illegal carrying of a weapon in relation to the murder of Antonio Cianfrone, former deputy commander of the Monsampolo carabinieri barracks, which took place on 3 June 2020 in Spinetoli (Ascoli Piceno). The Ascoli prosecutor Umberto Monti had asked for life imprisonment for both but the Court recognized the woman as the mitigation of the minimum participation. Husband and wife, defended by lawyers defenders Alessandro Angelozzi, Felice Franchi and Gianfranco Di Marcello, are now waiting to know the reasons for the sentence. They have always denied having killed Cianfrone: the killers arrived by motorbike and shot down the former carabiniere along the cycle path of San Pio X in Spinetoli, while he was jogging. The results of the ballistics survey had a significant impact on the ruling of the Court of Assizes. The two killers on motorcycles, faces obviously covered by full-face helmets, were filmed by several cameras along the way, including those of a bar in Spinetoli where the Spagnulos were clearly identified and, with them, also the clothes they wore; it was a real execution which was also attended by some witnesses.
