It’s a wonderful Ferrari Red-Bull duel that we will see again this weekend in Baku. At least as far as tomorrow’s pole fight is concerned. The good news is that Ferrari also has excellent cards to play on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Among the streets of Baku the F1-75s shone, especially with Charles Leclerc, who in the second free practice session of this eighth World Championship race in Azerbaijan was ahead of everyone in 1’43 ”224. Sergio Perez, who has recently been enjoying himself to precede his famous Red Bull teammate, Max Verstappen, third, just over three tenths from Leclerc, has two generous tenths trimmed as usual.

Differentiated work for Carlos Sainz who finished fifth behind Fernando Alonso’s Alpine. Session in which he went a long way, also because FP2 took place at the same time as qualifying. Leclerc and Sainz also missed Turn 7 and Turn 15, luckily braking on the escape routes. Overall, however, an excellent day for the Cavallino who showed good speed even in the race pace simulation. The theme of the long-distance duel with Red Bull remains, very close to the times of the red in GP step simulation. Also because on this track, compared to Monte Carlo, overtaking will be possible and it will be very interesting to see how the Cavallino fares both in terms of engine reliability and in terms of tire wear in the decisive stints of the race.

Alfa Romeo struggled a bit, with Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou in 15th and 16th position ahead of Kevin Magnussen’s Haas. Mick Schumacher and Nicholas Latifi close the ranking. Tomorrow the FP3 at 13 Italian, the fight for the pole at 16.
