Alex Britti remains “speechless” and proposes an album, entitled ‘Mojo’, entirely instrumental, which will be released on July 1st, because – he explains from an interview with Adnkonos at the Casa del Jazz in Rome where he will perform on Saturday – he felt the need to “to make a different record, something that I had never done before; even if – he adds – I have always tried to ‘insert’ instrumental themes between one song and another in all the pop records I have recorded. Now, I felt a sort of of moral duty to make an entirely instrumental record “. And he assures that “none of these instrumental pieces will become a song in the future, at least not on my part: I gave birth to the pieces like this and they will remain so, for me”.
After all, observes the Roman singer-songwriter, “I like to play the guitar; and I like to think and produce not only in song mode”. We could say that it is in your ‘ropes’ … “Exactly”, accepts the joke Alex Britti. On the album the bluesy sounds prevail, but they also welcome fusion, jazz, funky, country and even rock accents, “but it’s not my fault – he puts his hands on – after all, it is said that we are what we eat and I ate ‘lots of music and of different genres “. ‘Guitaristically’, he explains that he has as his main point of reference “Steve Redmond, the one who most imprinted me on how to put your fingers on the electric guitar; then Carlos Santana, Pat Metheny, Jimy Hendrix, Paco De Lucìa. Not I’ve never loved the sound of jazz guitar “, he confesses.
Returning to the album and its title, ‘Mojo’, Alex Britti explains that “it is a word that immediately brings us back to a very specific territory, both musical and geographical, namely the South of the States, where the first miracle of the merger between various cultures, where music represented the mix of these cultures, even social, different. ‘Mojo’ means amulet, it is a good luck charm: I don’t believe in luck but in propitiating one’s fate with one’s own state of mind. of things that make you feel good is a kind of amulet “. As for the ‘Mojo Tour’, “I will also sing some songs, but not ‘The tub’ … maybe those songs that I was sorry have remained on the album without ever becoming hit singles”.
