Genoa – Vittorio Raso, considered a boss of the ‘Ndrangheta, was arrested yesterday evening by the local police in the Catalan municipality of Castelldefels (Spain): the newspaper El País reports.
The same newspaper explains that Raso was stopped during a routine road check, while driving with false papers. Arrested for the first time in Spain, in 2020, he was later released on the orders of a judge, and has been a fugitive ever since.
Raso was first arrested in October 2020 in Barcelona: the police attributed crimes of belonging to a criminal organization, usury and drug trafficking, considering him a prominent figure of the Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta rooted in Turin. However, a few days later, the court of the Audiencia Nacional released him, claiming that they did not have sufficient elements to order the preventive prison against him (as in the minutes available only the contestation of a usury crime appeared). An evaluation, writes El País, which astonished the Spanish National Police.
Later, the Audiencia Nacional issued a new arrest warrant against Rasowhich in the meantime, however, had already lost its tracks.
In January of this year, the Italian police have over 400 thousand euros in cash seized in a garage in Nichelino (Turin)together with Rolex watches and jewels worth over 200 thousand euros, a ‘treasure’ attributed to Raso.
