Ferrari tried with Carlos Sainz to take advantage of the safety car after Yuki Tsunoda’s accident on lap 49, however Max Verstappen resisted with authority and also triumphed in Montreal. While Lewis Hamilton took a podium that appears unexpected and, as if by magic, the British champion has forgotten his back problems of recent times. But the honors are all for him, Max, despite the final worries: “Of course the safety car didn’t help us. Ferrari was very fast and it was difficult for me, they had cooler tires. Carlos pushed hard, easier with the Drs, but I went fast too. Our speed on the straight this year is very high and that helps us. It was a very fun Grand Prix ”.

Carlos Sainz tried to grab his Dutch rival until the very end, until the long end of the last lap which gave Verstappen that minimum, albeit relative, safety margin. “I pushed to the maximum – commented the Ferrari driver – I didn’t even leave an inch under braking or near the barriers, I tried them all but we didn’t have enough speed to overtake, we lacked that little bit more.
