In May, more than 1.3 million Dutch people listened to podcasts, 340 thousand more than in January. This is reported by research agency GfK based on an online reach survey. In the first five months, according to GfK, more than 3 million Dutch people listened to podcasts.
In practice, there are even more, because in this study GfK does not measure the number of podcasts played via music streaming services. Spotify is one of the most popular apps for listening to podcasts.
Podimo takes market share
“Listening to podcasts has taken a significant leap this year,” said GfK. According to the agency, the arrival of the podcast subscription service Podimo also plays a role. Podimo reached 20 percent of podcasts online visits in May.
Some of the most popular Dutch podcasts have only been available to Podimo subscribers since April.
Popular among young people
Podcasts are becoming increasingly popular, especially among young people, according to the GfK figures. Nearly half of podcast listeners are under the age of 35. In January it was only 35 percent.
Young people listen for a relatively long time: 60 percent of them listen for 10 minutes or longer, while that is about one third in the group over 35 years old. About half of Dutch podcast listeners listen to a podcast three days or more per month.
