At Bayern, it is still unclear whether Robert Lewandowski should or even has to stay. In order to provide more clarity and calm, Hasan Salihamidzic is said to have held a meeting with the striker and his agent last week.
There are far worse places than Mallorca to spend June. Apparently Hasan Salihamidzic thought so too and saw the island as a suitable meeting point for a kind of ‘Lewandowski summit’, as in the case of Sky was titled ‘Transfer Update’.
The goal of the sports director: to provide a little more clarity, especially from the perspective of the club, and to take the sometimes heated atmosphere out of this transfer cause. After all, some of the striker’s statements in the past few weeks had understandably caused anger and resentment in Munich.
Reporter Florian Plettenberg reported that it was a “proper” and “very substantial” conversation between Salihamidzic, Lewandowski and his advisor Pini Zahavi. It could be seen as positive across the board, the report said.
However, there has hardly been and will hardly be a reversal. Accordingly, the attacker once again made it clear that his goal is FC Barcelona – and not a potential stay at Bayern.
The view of the German record champions remains the same: it is still the clearly preferred goal that Lewandowski stays. Those responsible have emphasized this again and again for weeks. This route should be adhered to – although of course it cannot be set in stone.
Even if nothing has changed in the respective positions while Barca are preparing a new offer in the background, Salihamidzic has achieved an important goal with this summit: There is now more clarity between the parties and probably a slightly better mood.
