But how? We explain 5 simple ways to you:
1. Plants with strong odors
Aphids hate plants with a strong smell. Think lavender, savory, garlic and marigolds. So plant such a strongly scented flower or plant next to your infested plant and the aphids will make them get away!
2. Crush
Crush some aphids gently with your fingers. In this way they not only die, but also a certain smell is released that will attract certain insects such as ladybugs that they eat with love.
3. Control with home, garden and kitchen products
You really don’t have to run straight to the garden center to buy pesticides. You can also easily make this yourself with things you probably already have at home. For example, mix 1 tablespoon of green soap with 1 liter of water and you have your own pesticide. Prefer to use store-bought pesticides? Then fight them with biological insecticide or (diluted) nettle vulture.
4. Cold water
Prefer not to use pesticides at all? Then rinse your plant thoroughly with cold water from the watering can or garden hose. This way your plant gets a nice cold shower and the aphids rinse away immediately.
5. Earwigs
Earwigs love aphids, and we definitely don’t! So, 1+1=2… Hang up an earwig jar and the earwigs have a feast and you’ll soon be rid of it!
