Today was the long-awaited presentation that Square Enix had prepared to make a bunch of Final Fantasy VII announcements. Well, the broadcast ended with a trailer that fans were waiting for so much, but that confused many.
The Square Enix event did not disappoint, as it presented news of the continuation of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which will be called Rebirth.
Since the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Remake there has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding the details. That if it was going to be exclusive only to the console and it would come to PC, that there would not only be 2 parts, but more (something that has only just been officially defined, years later). Well, the details around the project are becoming clearer, but there is still ambiguity and as an example is the reveal trailer for the second part.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will debut next winter… in 2023 or 2024?
Well, what caught our attention is that at the end of the trailer, Square Enix confirmed the game’s launch window: next winter!
This filled many with emotion, because, at first, this would mean that Final Fantasy Rebirth would debut next winter, which runs from December 2022 to March 2023; that is, at the latest the game would go on sale on March 31, 2023.
But more calmly, they realized the reality, because the news was too good to be true. We say this because, apparently Square Enix was referring to the winter that comes to the other; that is, the one that will begin in December 2023 and end in March 2024. As you read it. We sincerely doubt that the release will happen in the last days of 2022, but rather that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will not be ready until 2024.
Square Enix needs to be clearer with its announcements
The above caused a lot of confusion and there are even fans who still think that the game will arrive no later than March 31, 2023 and we do not blame them, as many only specifically saw the trailer for the game and saw “next winter” as a release window.
After all, “following” means the “following” (according to the journal of the Royal Spanish Academy) or that which is “immediately adjacent (whether in space, rank, or place)” (according to Merriam-Webster).
In any case, in English or Spanish, it would be understood that “next winter” is the one to come, because, I don’t know about you, readers, but according to me we still haven’t passed the winter that begins at the end of this year, for Therefore, the “next” would be the one that starts in December 2022 and ends in March 2023.
In case you missed it: you will be able to play Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis before its premiere.
You don’t play with the illusion of the people. How “next winter” is in 2023? 😭 https://t.co/BtAs1iHC2R

By the way, the “next” winter Rebirth doesn’t refer to this winter, does it? You mean the next one, that is, the end of 2023? That’s how I understand it and I’m reading people read the opposite of this year (?)

“Next winter” refers to this year or next year? I’m nervous and I don’t know https://t.co/MvEY4imPJ3

between “this winter”, “next winter” and I don’t know what the hell makes my head hot already

Ok, at first I thought that “next winter” was this coming winter… It is still sooner than expected though…

Curious how at the end of the FF VII Rebirth trailer it said “next winter” which surprised me. Then I saw that Crisis Core said “This winter”… surely many of us got the idea that it would arrive in the coming months, but it will be in 2023-2024, right? 🤔

Next winter is likely referencing 2023. So I imagine square will clarify

I understand that they used “next winter” as it’s release, but does this mean early 2023 or late 2023? Or even perhaps early 2024?

IS NEXT WINTER THIS YEAR OR NEXT YEAR?

Next Winter refer to 2023, right? hahahahaha
It sucks but ok.

This Winter = Invierno 2022: Crisis Core Remake
Next Winter = Invierno 2023: FF7 RebirthThat I see that you are reading them.

It doesn’t help that the company hasn’t been clear not only in the trailer, but also in their press releases. In them he mentions that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released “approximately 3 years after Final Fantasy VII Remake originally released in 2020”.
If we do the math, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth should arrive “approximately” in April 2023. That is, this aligns more with the next real winter (December 2022 to March 2023) and not the next winter that Square Enix envisions (December from 2023 to March 2024). In any case, it would be much better to say “approximately 4 years” since the premiere of the original remake.
However, after seeing all the announcements and common sense says that with “next winter” Square Enix refers to the winter that comes after the one that comes or rather the one that covers December 2023 to 2024, but something that is clear is that Square Enix needs to improve communication so as not to cause misunderstanding among fans, how about using “winter 2023” instead of “next winter”?
Considering that Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth will debut almost 4 years after Final Fantasy VII Remake (and not “approximately 3 years” as Square Enix says), we have no doubt that the third and final part of the remake will debut until 2028 or, in terms from Square Enix, within several more winters.
