After KOEI TECMO and Team Ninja announced that they would put Nioh to rest to privilege other projects, we finally learned what the company and the studio are up to: Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. This title is inspired by the history of the Three Kingdoms in China (The Three Kingdoms), that is, a reference in many role-playing and adventure games that have been made in Japan and other Asian countries. How similar will this game be to what Team Ninja has done recently? We have the answer.
Wo Long will be the first game in which Team Ninja tackles the story of the Three Kingdoms
During an interview with IGN (via Wccftech) Fumihiko Yasuda and Masaaki Yamagiwa, producers of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, talked about the history of this game and the changes it will have regarding Nioh, an immediate franchise with which the Japanese studio is related. Initially, both pointed out that it is the first time that Team Ninja will work with the Three Kingdoms and although it is a context addressed before by KOEI TECMO, it will be something new for both parties: “although the period of the Three Kingdoms is iconic for KOEI TECMO , Team Ninja himself has never tackled it before. By merging Team Ninja action with the company’s most popular setting, Wo Long could be said to share DNA from both sides, although KOEI TECMO has never actually done a version of dark fantasy of the Three Kingdoms setting”.

Wo Long will share some elements with Nioh but will go further
It is said that the apple does not fall far from the tree and in the case of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, it will share some elements with Nioh, but will go further, trying to offer something different on the basis formed by the Souls, a style that It was a key piece for Team Ninja to finally bring that franchise out of obscurity. In that sense, faster combat and the possibility of jumping were confirmed, something that has influenced the development of the scenarios: “the action is faster than in Nioh, and you can do things like jump against an enemy and jump on him That being said, we wanted to keep that feeling of being in control of a real human being, so that there’s not too much flashy jumping or movie action, in that sense I guess you could say it’s a bit more down to earth. block, dodge, or shield an enemy’s attack while attacking. This continuous flow of offense and defense is something we think is iconic for Chinese martial arts. There are moments of full force, but there’s also a softer side. We wanted to show this feature creating a more natural flow between offense and defense.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is coming in 2023.
