The curved solar panels will be located in the car’s roof, hood and trunk, which will power the electric batteries.
The company says the car will be able to run 388 miles without stopping to recharge.
The company’s co-founder and CEO, Lex Hofsloot, said that what distinguishes the car is the most efficient powertrain in the world, in addition to its light weight.
“Electric cars are a step in the right direction, but they depend on the electric grid, which remains mostly based on energy derived from fossil fuels,” he added during the unveiling of the €250,000 Lightyear 0 model.
“Adding the sun as a new source of energy gives you more confidence that you will always be able to charge your car, while paying much lower fees.”
Other companies are developing cars with solar panels, but none of them are ready to enter the market yet.
