Starfield is not only Bethesda’s first original IP in 25 years, but it is also the company’s most ambitious project to date and although the project aims to provide the highest possible quality in different sections, this does not mean that there is no space for the strategy and management of resources in favor of its proper development. We say this because recently, Todd Howard revealed the reason why the entry and descent in planets will be something direct, without player intervention.
Starfield won’t let you manually land on planets
During the Starfield presentation, Todd Howard and Bethesda revealed that there will be more than 1000 planets divided into solar systems and part of the attraction is that we can choose the point of the planet where we want to enter and land. However, those fans of the complex and realistic mechanics of all kinds of ships will be left wanting to do a manual descent because the development team considered that there was no reason to work on it because it would not be attractive.

Bethesda always thinks that Starfield works as a video game
In this regard, Howard pointed out in an interview with IGN (via Pure Xbox): “there are some things that we do not do, intentionally, because we prefer to spend time on what is shocking. Some people wonder if you can fly the ship directly to a planet , and the answer is no. We decided early on in the project that the surface is one reality and then when you’re in space it’s another reality. We thought that if you try to spend a lot of time designing for what’s in In the middle of both realities, you are just wasting a lot of time that is not so important for the gaming experience.
Todd Howard’s remarks could be taken as a good sign that even with the huge scale and ambition behind Starfield, efforts are being made to make it work as a video game.
