Corendon is moving about 150 flights from Schiphol to Rotterdam The Hague Airport in the holiday months of July and August. The travel organization says on Thursday that it does not want to wait for the relocation or cancellation of flights due to staff shortages at Schiphol. In addition, Corendon is canceling approximately 35 flights because they are, for example, merged with other flights to the same destination.
In total, the number of flights that Corendon originally planned from Schiphol will be reduced by a quarter. The airport in Rotterdam has confirmed to Corendon that it can take over the 150 flights. The travel organization cannot yet say which flights will be transferred from Amsterdam to Rotterdam.
Preparations for this scenario were already started in May, the travel organization reports. At the beginning of May, dozens of flights at Schiphol were canceled and chaotic scenes with long queues prevailed at the airport. “We understand that some customers find it annoying to depart from another airport, but it is a better alternative than having to cancel the entire holiday,” writes Corendon director Steven van der Heijden.
