Although he did not get many opportunities to play at Real Madrid, Jesus Vallejo will be retained by the club next season. Previously Vallejo’s future was unclear because he was not a priority player for the first team.
As quoted from Football Espana, Madrid’s decision to retain Vallejo was not without reason. Carlo Ancelotti wants to use Vallejo as a coating, while ensuring the depth of the Madrid squad.
Vallejo himself actually still has a contract until 2025. Last season, Vallejo played only 353 minutes in total. Only two Madrid players have played in total under Vallejo, namely Dani Ceballos and Gareth Bale.
The competition in the center back position is indeed quite tough for Vallejo. Moreover, Madrid have also just brought in Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea, which means Vallejo is the fifth choice for the center back position behind David Alaba, Eder Militao and Nacho.
Vallejo is a Real Zaragoza academy player. He joined Los Blancos in 2015, but has only made 17 appearances in La Liga so far. Vallejo has so far been loaned four times, one of them to Wolverhampton.
