After nearly 2 years, the pandemic has eased considerably, allowing people to return to their old lifestyle and allowing Pokémon GO to be played on the streets again. In order to follow its philosophy, Niantic has removed several bonuses that it implemented in the pandemic so that fans could play from home. The removal of one of them caused a lot of anger in the fans weeks ago, but today he surprisingly returned for a limited time.
A few hours ago the Pokémon GO Fest 2022 was held. For this event, Niantic had reported that it would improve the effectiveness of Incense, a bonus that holders of a ticket for the virtual event could enjoy, but had not specified if this would also apply to players who activate it without moving; that is, playing it from home.
Find out: a new LEVEL UP t-shirt is now available, run for yours.
Common sense and various clues suggested that it would not; After all, Niantic intends to get Pokémon GO back to the way it was before the pandemic, with trainers taking to the streets to interact with other players, Pokéstops, and Gyms.
Because they wouldn’t be out on the streets for one reason or another, many chose not to spend $14.99 USD or $349 MXN to get a virtual ticket.
Niantic allowed to play the Pokémon GO Fest 2022 without leaving home
However, there were those who waited until the last minute to find out how the event would go. Thanks to reports from players in New Zealand and other regions where the event started earlier due to their time zone, it was learned that Niantic had boosted the effectiveness of Incense both while moving and in its stationary state.
The above means that the stationary Incense during the event attracted more Pokémon than it usually attracts on a typical day. To put this in context, with the reversal of the bonus due to the pandemic, Incense attracts 1 Pokémon every 5 minutes. However, during the event the Pokémon spawn rate was 1 every 45 seconds, which is not close to the spawn rate of previous Pokémon GO Fests, but very close to that of Community Days.
Thus, many players ended up buying a ticket and apparently that was Niantic’s strategy, despite the fact that their desire is to return to making Pokémon GO only playable outside.
In case you missed it: Niantic increased the storage limit of Pokémon GO.
