Tragedy at the Rally Storico Campagnolo, where Michele Bortignon lost his life from a heart attack in front of the eyes of his navigator daughter
The 17 edition of the Campagnolo Historic Rally, which every year keeps the morale of many fans from all over the Vicenza area high, has not been completed, due to the most tragic of reasons. Michele Bortignonone of the drivers in the race, fell ill and died before the eyes of his 21-year-old daughter who was his navigator.
A devastating and sudden tragedy which shocked not just a family, but an entire community.
Michele, 51, originally from and resident of Bassano Del Grappa, had abandoned car racing for twenty years. Lately, however, for the love of his daughter Alessia, now 21, he had decided to get back behind the wheel.
That of the 17th edition of Campagnolo Historic Rally this year was the first race he took part in after his absence and his daughter was sitting next to him to fill the role of navigator. In the race he had also followed him his other sonaged 13, who was waiting for him in the pits.
The car with the number 88 was driving the transfer route after the stage of Recoarowhen the pilot accused a sickness. Despite the pain in his chest, Bortignon was able to slow to a stop, only to pass out.
It all happened, unfortunately, under the eyes of the daughter 21 years old. The race doctors immediately rushed to the scene and carried out all the resuscitation maneuvers, but for the 51-year-old there was no nothing to do. The intervention of the doctors on board the helicopter rescue service from the Verona hospital was also useless.

Condolences for the death of Michele Bortignon
