Lieke Martens has again won the ‘double’ in Spain with FC Barcelona. The Catalan football players defeated Sporting Huelva in Alcorcón 6-1 in the battle for the Spanish Cup. Martens, who had a basic place, took the fifth goal in the final phase.
Barcelona took the league title weeks ago. The Catalan team won all thirty matches in the Spanish league and came out with a goal difference of 159-11. Just like last year, Barcelona also reached the final of the Champions League, but the defending champion had to lose out against Olympique Lyon (1-3) in Turin last week. Martens then came on as a substitute in the team after the break.
In the final of the Copa de la Reina, the Limburg left winger was allowed to play the entire match. After a halftime score of 2-0, Sporting Huelva did something back, but then Barcelona ran out to a convincing victory. Last year, Martens and her teammates also took the ‘double’.
Martens will now prepare with the Orange for the European Championship in England next summer.
