Ahead of the 2021/22 Champions League final match against Liverpool, Thibaut Courtois as the mainstay goalkeeper from Real Madrid, emphasized that he was ready to face any possibility that would happen on Sunday (29/5) early morning WIB.
In fact, he has stated that he is ready to take penalties if needed later, and Courtois also claims that he will not feel pressure to try to deny the kicks that will be taken by Liverpool players, later.
“Of course, I will not be one of the first five kickers (if there is a penalty shootout). But maybe after, because you have to be ready under any circumstances,” Courtois was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
“I’m not afraid. This is an opportunity to shine. We won against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup (in 2020), when I saved one penalty and this season, I can stop three penalties.”
Although his confidence has increased, Courtois still cannot underestimate Liverpool in the shootout, given that they have recorded two consecutive wins in the final (League Cup and FA Cup), when the match had to be decided this way.
