Unlike Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer has extended his contract with FC Bayern. The Polish top scorer, represented by agent Pini Zahavi, is fighting determinedly for an early farewell. Now the Bayern captain has commented on the Lewandowski saga.
Despite the clear statements by the Bayern bosses that Lewandowski has to fulfill his contract with FC Bayern, there is of course still heated speculation about a change. In any case, the last word will not have been spoken yet. Bayern captain Manuel Neuer initially takes a sober view of the situation.
“I think Robert Lewandowski has a clear vision, just like the club has a clear vision. He has one year left on his contract so he’s tied to the club for now,” he explained BILD-Demand.
However, the 36-year-old still thinks it is possible for the top striker to leave early.
“If there is a desire that he wants to leave the club, then there will be talks and then the club has to weigh up: Does it make sense to sell Lewy or to keep him?” said the Bayern keeper.
A lot will probably depend on whether the Munich team can find a suitable candidate to succeed Lewandowski. Accordingly, the question also arises for Neuer which “new signing one could then present for the position in storm”.
In any case, the goalkeeper is sure that the Bayern bosses will ultimately draw the right conclusions and the club will stay on track with or without Lewandowski.
“The club has always put together a good squad with a top team, so I’m quite sure that we’ll make the right decisions for FC Bayern again,” he said, confident of the top management.
But it also makes it clear that Manuel Neuer is not sure that Lewandowski will really stay.
