Bad news for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and all AC Milan fans: the Swede will be out for seven to eight months after an operation!
The Rossoneri announced on Wednesday that Ibra had surgery on his left knee in Lyon. The intervention had been planned for a long time “in order to finally resolve the instability of the joint through the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament with lateral reinforcement and meniscus repair,” as the statement says.
According to the club, the operation went well, but the downtime will be seven to eight months! It is more than questionable whether we will see Ibrahimovic on the field again.
Although the Italian media had reported that the Swede still wanted to hang on for another year and did not want to end his career – but it was not yet known that the 40-year-old would only be able to play again in the 2023 calendar year. Fighting back at his age after such a long break should be a Herculean task.
Ibrahimovic would probably do better to end his career by winning the Scudetto and retiring at the peak. A role as a coach – as he has more or less already taken on in the dressing room in recent months – should certainly be found in Stefano Pioli’s coaching team.
