The municipality immediately started cutting the aluminum poles. They are cut off at 1.30 meters, so that there is no danger during a storm.
One already blown over
Especially the posts on the corners of streets are seriously affected by the urine, because dogs prefer to lift their paws. Because the urine has acted on the posts for years, corrosion has developed and they rot. A few weeks ago, a lamppost blew over during a storm.
The municipality has now decided to replace the aluminum posts with steel posts. They are more resistant to dog urine. There is, however, one problem: it is currently difficult to obtain steel. That is why many places in Viersen will not be illuminated for the foreseeable future.
