CANNES, 25 MAY – There are two Ukrainian films competing (barring surprises) for the Caméra d’or for the best first film of the entire festival. The second, presented today in “Un Certain Regard” is BUTTERFLY VISION by Maksim Nakonechnyi which has aroused many positive comments in the story of the nightmares that chase a young woman after three years in prison in Donbass. But they are in the news today for the spectacular protest with which, on the stairs of the Palazzo, in front of the Debussy Room, they brought to the fore a theme so burning that it cannot remain undetected even from the point of view of the cinema. The whole crew rolled out a huge black banner that reads “Russians kill Ukrainians. Do you think it offensive and disturbing to talk about genocide in this case? ”. Some with uncovered faces, others protected by personalized panels, actors, creators and technicians have thus launched a powerful and in turn “disturbing” message. In the crowd of onlookers and photographers, the banner was then folded up and the projection began regularly. (HANDLE).
